Cold Air Equals More Power
In designing out the stock air box, aFe designs the largest air box that they can for each vehicle application. Even though they make it as large as possible, aFe is careful to use stock mounting points. There is no need to cut or drill anything when you install an aFe kits. The air box is made as large as possible so that the largest possible air filter can be used.

Compared to our other systems, the Magnum FORCE Stage 2 intake system replaces the entire stock air induction system to the throttle body or turbo housing. Remembering aFe’s motto “Stock Sucks”, they eliminate the stock air box, the stock air filter and the stock intake tract. The only thing retained is the stock electronics. They make sure that the Stage 2 system like all of aFe’s intake systems works with the stock electronics

aFe's Magnum Force Stage 1 intakes systems:
With the Magnum FORCE Stage 1 intake system, aFe replaces the stock air box and the stock air filter. By replacing the restrictive air box and air filter, there is a noticeable improvement in airflow and power. However, Stage 1 retains the stock intake tract.
In designing out the stock air box, aFe always tries to design in the largest air box that they can. When replacing the stock intake tube as they do in their Stage 2 systems, you have more flexibility since you can change the tube configuration. However adapting to the stock intake tube forces some limitation on the design. Even with adapting to the constraints of the stock intake tube, aFe is careful to use stock mounting points. There is no need to cut or drill anything when you install an aFe kit.

Improved Engine Protection Multi-layer oiled cotton gauze attracts and traps contaminants without sacrificing air flow. Sturdy epoxy coated wire mesh construction protects filter media (and engine) from large debris
Poorly designed seals either permit air leakage or distort the filter housing. Many other filters use plastisol or air/foam seals. Over time, heat and chemical attack cause this material to lose its elastic characteristics, which result in seal failure. On the other hand, foam type seals simply cannot pass the test of time. Use of a foaming agent reduces the amount of polyurethane used in the part. Minimal heat exposure tends to turn this material into powder. The aFe air filter features a superior seal design with a 100% polyurethane material construction.
